Vacations to Believe In
Globus Invites Travelers to Rejoice in 500 Years of the Reformation
& the 100th Anniversary of Fátima
LITTLETON, Colorado – June 22, 2016 – In 1517, Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the large wooden doors of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, igniting historic religious change – and marking the beginning of the Reformation. In 2017 – 500 years later – the Globus family of brands is opening the doors to the legacy of Luther at key Reformation sights throughout his journey. But that’s not all. The company is also helping faith-based travelers celebrate 100 years of the apparitions in Fátima, Portugal. In total, the Globus family of brands is unveiling 13 faith-based itineraries throughout Europe as well as Israel, Jordan and Mexico.
These faith-based vacations invite travelers to renew their faith by following the Way of the Cross in Jerusalem, walking in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul in Greece, reflecting at the the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi and taking a portion of the Camino Pilgrim’s Way in Santiago de Compostela.
For travelers interested in celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, Globus is offering an 11-day European Reformation tour through Germany. Highlights include:
- Eisleben where Luther’s life began and ended with visits to his Birth House and Death House museums as well as St. Peter & Paul Church where he was baptized
- Augustinian Monastery where Luther lived as a monk
- A journey to Eisenach where he lived in the Luther House and later lived, in disguise, at Wartburg Castle
- Coburg Fortress where he spent time translating the Bible into German
- A guided tour of Augsburg where Luther and his followers proclaimed their faith
*June 8 and October 29, 2017 departure dates give travelers the chance to celebrate two special occasions: Luther’s Wedding Festival (June 8) and Reformation Day in Wittenberg (October 31).
Four hundred years after the Reformation came the apparitions of our Lady of Fátima. On the 100th Anniversary, Globus and Cosmos are inviting travelers to explore, reflect and renew their faith while visiting Fátima, Portugal with 14-day Marian Shrines of Europe (Globus) and 12-day Fátima, Lourdes & Shrines of Spain (Cosmos).
In addition to these celebratory tours, Cosmos is encouraging voluntourism with its “Get Out and Give Back” program. On two itineraries – Holy Land Discovery and Biblical Israel – Cosmos offers travelers the opportunity to give back to the citizens of Israel and Jordan with volunteer work in Nazareth, Jerusalem and Madaba.
Cosmos is also unveiling a NEW 8-day Spiritual Highlights of Poland itinerary. Highlights include visits to the Ghetto in Warsaw; Franciscan Monastery in Niepokalanow; St. Casimir Church in Swinice Warckie; Jasna Gora Monastery in Czetochowa; Basilica Minor in Wadowice and Auschwitz Concentration Camp.
